Why I Wouldn't Recommend a Marathon to Most People
Last month, I ran a marathon.
At km 30, I was so hungry I could barely run.
Two energy gels barely helped. My body wanted only hot food. It was raining, my emotions were loud, and a voice told me to let go of the numbers.
So I stopped at a stall and ate a bowl of beef noodles.
It sounds funny now. But it took more courage than any training run I have done.
I wrote about the marathon: why I would not recommend it to most people for long-term health, why I ran it anyway, and what spending 80% of my running in Zone 2 taught me about listening to my own body.
And yes, the beef noodles were probably the most important part.
